    • Gulf seafood & oysters in Birmingham, Alabama

    Automatic Seafood and Oysters is a James Beard Award-winning seafood restaurant in Birmingham's Lakeview district. Chef and owner Adam Evans, named Best Chef: South by the James Beard Foundation in 2022, opened Automatic in April 2019 with designer Suzanne Humphries Evans. Today the restaurant is recommended in the MICHELIN Guide and is regularly named one of the best restaurants in Birmingham.

    Our menu is built around the Gulf of Mexico. Most of our fish comes from Gulf waters, and our raw bar features oysters from the Southern and Eastern coastlines, alongside a selection of locally farmed produce and proteins. Expect dishes like dry-aged scallops and blackened amberjack with crab beurre blanc, on a menu that changes with the seasons and the catch.

    The restaurant lives in the former Automatic Sprinkler Corporation building, which gave us our name. Inside, the dining room draws on classic Americana and the coast. It's warm, relaxed and made for lingering, whether you're here for date night, a family celebration or just a dozen oysters.

    Visiting Birmingham? You'll find us on 5th Avenue South in Lakeview, a short drive from downtown and the city's hotels.
