Jose Medina Camacho
Born in Michoacán, Mexico, Bar Manager Jose De Jesus Medina Camacho curates both the craft cocktail and wine programs at Automatic Seafood & Oysters. An 11 year veteran of the Birmingham bar and restaurant scene, Jose was born into a restaurant family but originally intended to follow a different path. Yet, after climbing the industry ladder for more than a decade—starting as a server and eventually becoming a restaurant manager, Jose has realized that his professional calling is behind the bar, where he’s discovered his true passion. After years of experience in beverage management at Birmingham’s Little Donkey, Octane, and The Marble Ring, Jose accepted the Lead Bartender position at Automatic Seafood & Oysters in early 2019. He is inspired daily by exploring and concocting new flavor creations; he’s also motivated by the conversations and relationships he creates with his guests – all of which drive his enthusiasm to provide the best experience possible at Automatic. When he’s not behind the bar, Jose can be found traveling, exploring the outdoors hiking or canoeing, or whipping up a dish in his home kitchen.
